I’ve been pondering over this sort of post for quite some time – one that summarises all of the stats that come up on WordPress’s dashboard that bloggers using WP will be more than familiar with. The stats shine a light on some interesting nuggets of information.
What you’ve been reading
The top posts thus far have been Going beyond a pill – on my experiences with mental health, and Restoring the peace – my initial response to the London riots, with just under 500 for each. My experience of signing on for Job Seekers’ Allowance & my suggestions for improving systems and processes at the job centre also picked up hundreds of views.
What you’ve been ignoring
Some of my personal and/or local niche interests not surprisingly have had fewer views than those posts that chime with a much greater number of people. Amateur sports hasn’t scored particularly highly, nor did posts on the design of musical instruments or ballroom dancing.
What links you’ve been clicking through to
The most popular link by a mile is… the link to an old railway map! Lots of you have been fascinated by the New Adlestrop Railway Map that reveals the old railway network of England before Beeching tore up half of it.
Charlie Fox and Sarah Baskerville have been the most popular Twitter people that you’ve clicked through to. CharonQC’s blog has been the most popular blog homepage that you’ve clicked through onto, while Soph Warne’s hosting of Puffles’ original house rules is the most popular blogpost that you’ve clicked through to.
Where most referrals to this blog have come from
Not surprisingly, Twitter is the biggest source of referrals, with over 4,000 click throughs. All of the others are below 150 – the most popular being other social media platforms and clients/aggregators. The Student Room has provided over 100 feed-throughs though this is mainly due to me posting a few links on some of their threads on their discussion boards where I was once a moderator.
In terms of search engine terms, various combinations of “A dragon’s best friend” have fed through to this blog. People searching for Dr Julian Huppert MP (my local MP representing Cambridge) and David Allen Green (social media law expert) have also ended up stumbling across this blog too.
What you’ve been commenting on
The most commented post so far is Today at the job centre, with posts relating to the delivery of public services being the most commented on. Teacher training in further and higher education was a particularly controversial post, and debate was just as passionate on the issues around the issue of charity fund raising and transparency in a chugger’s worst nightmare.

The weekly rate fluctuates between 500 to 2,000 views per week. Monthly this works out at over 5,000 views per month.
